Be a Good Neighbor Day of Service 2020

Mister Rogers' Be A Good Neighbor Day

“Mutual caring relationships require kindness and patience, tolerance, optimism, joy in the other’s achievements, confidence in oneself, and the ability to give without undue thought of gain.” This is what Fred Rogers believed because it’s our responsibility to care for the most vulnerable. Fred’s life reminds us that we can work for the well-being of the most vulnerable wherever we may be, in whatever work we do. We can work to make a difference right where we are. Mister Rogers’ teachings could help us stand up for what we believe in and come together across our differences. By serving on Pitt Be a Good Neighbor Day, you are showing your enthusiastic support for our regional neighborhood!

While the structure of Pitt Be A Good Neighbor Day will be  similar to large days of the past, we are dedicated to making this signature day focused on the theme of neighborhoods and the concept of being a “good neighbor”. Be A Good Neighbor Day of service aims to create a sense of community on campus while working alongside neighborhoods that focus on civic engagement and enhances the collaborative power of community service.

Sometimes, it is helpful to stop amid all the craziness in our lives and listen to what Fred Rogers had to say -- you are special, everyone is your neighbor, be kind, and be yourself. We are all neighbors.
