Rooted in Community: Juneteenth Volunteer Day with Sankofa
As part of the University of Pittsburgh Juneteenth programming, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will host Rooted in Community in partnership with the Office of PittServes and the Office of Engagement and Community Affairs. This event aims to create sustained relationships with communities surrounding the University and educate our Pitt community on the rich history ingrained in those communities. University students, staff, and faculty will volunteer at numerous community gardens in and surrounding the greater Pittsburgh area. Sankofa Village Community Garden/Farms (SVCGF) installed a pagoda on it's property. Presently, they are in the process of finishing that project and the most important thing required now is that we complete the bottom (floor). Volunteers will be adding compost to the gravel, laying pavers and planting groundcover, and if time permits, volunteers will paint pavers. Volunteers will need boots and old clothes.
