Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit (formerly known as the Summit Against Racism)

http://pittsburghracialjusticesummit.org/

The Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit (formerly known as the Summit Against Racism) is the Black & White Reunion's annual multicultural initiative. It was inspired by the tragic demise of Jonny Gammage, a Black businessman and philanthropist, who died from positional asphyxiation at the hands of white police during a “routine” traffic stop in 1995. "Not guilty" verdicts in the court cases against the police inspired the founding of the Black & White Reunion, which convenes the Summit in order to encourage learning about and action on racial justice issues. Summit proceeds fund the Jonny Gammage Scholarship for local law students of color who demonstrate a commitment to social justice. The event enables discussion about the current state of race relations in the U.S., what we have learned so far, and pathways to deeper understanding, healing, and social action. It is held on the weekend after MLK, Jr. Day every year-- the next one is January 20 and 21, 2023.
